WESTBURY CHILDREN LAUNCH HOSPICE COLOURING COMPETITION
Pupils from Westbury on Trym Church of England Academy were on hand to launch a colouring competition on behalf of St Peter’s Hospice.
The competition has been arranged by the Westbury-on-Trym branch of the charity which now wants as many children in the area to get colouring and drop off their creation at the shop on Canford Lane.
The theme for the competition is a ‘Robin’ and those who send in an entry will then have their drawing judged by internationally renowned artist Tony Pace who has this year created the hospice’s Christmas cards.
The winner will then have their picture framed as well as receiving some festive treats.
Mandi Gibbs from St Peter’s Hospice said: “A lot of our fund raising activity is focused on the grown ups so we thought it would be nice to do something for the children.
“We thought it would be nice to go back to old fashioned values and do an art competition and what better subject than a colourful Robin Red breast. It’s also a great way for the children to learn a little about what we do at the hospice.
“It’s vital we get continual support throughout the year so we’re keen for as many mums and dads to drop in as well to perhaps pick up a bargain for Christmas or even buy some of the fantastic Christmas cards that Tony has painted.
“Many might be interested to know that we’re also opening late every Thursday until 7pm throughout December so there’s plenty of opportunity for people to drop in.”
There are three age groups for the competition including categories for 3-5 years, 6-8 years and 9-11 years with the deadline for entries being Saturday 17 December at 5pm.
In 2010 St Peter’s Hospice cared for 2,200 patients in the region and supported more than 6,000 family members, including children.
All care is provided free of charge, but with the NHS contributing just 23 per cent of the £6.5 million needed to run the hospice a year, support from the public is essential.
