CHARITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH BIGGEST FUNDRAISER YET

A local charity is appealing for volunteers to help with its biggest fundraising event to date.

Bristol & Avon Multiple Sclerosis centre (BrAMS) is planning a marathon charity Rickshaw ride on 25 May and needs fundraising and organising volunteers to help in the run-up and at the event itself.

Those interested would be needed to help distribute posters and promotional materials around the city before the event and also help along the route from the Clifton Suspension Bridge to London’s Tower Bridge collecting donations and getting involved.

BrAMS head of fundraising Shaun McCarthy said: “This is the biggest fundraiser we have ever done and we need as much help as possible to fully take advantage of this great idea.

“We’d love for those with MS to help as well as anyone who has a link to the illness or anyone who would just like to help out. You can donate anything from an hour of your time to a week, we appreciate it all!

“The event has been planned to raise vital funds for pioneering stem cell trials which are world-leading. We need to raise an extra £1 million for the trials which could make a massive difference to the lives of sufferers across the world and every penny counts.”

The cutting-edge stem cell treatment being trialled at Frenchay Hospital involves taking patients’ own bone marrow stem cells and injecting them into their veins in order to repair damage done by MS. It is pioneering work in both the UK and worldwide.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for BrAMS please contact Shaun McCarthy on 0117 3406490 or email shaun.mccarthy@brams.org.uk
